Pharmacological effect
Beta1-selective (selectively blocking beta-receptors) adrenoblocker. It has hypotensive (reducing blood pressure) and antianginal (anti-ischemic) action. By blocking beta1-adrenoreceptors of the heart, it reduces the heart rate (at rest and under load), cardiac output. It lowers atrioventricular conductivity (conduction of electrical excitation through the heart). In large doses (0.02 g or more), the drug can also block beta2-adrenoreceptors, mainly in the bronchi and vascular smooth muscles.
Indications
Arterial hypertension (persistent rise in blood pressure), prevention of strokes.
Contraindications
Chronic heart failure in the phase of decompensation, atrioventricular block II-III degree; intra atrial blockade to a large extent (impaired electrical excitation of the heart); sick sinus syndrome (heart disease, accompanied by a violation of its rhythm); severe bradycardia (rare pulse), arterial hypotension (systolic / “upper” / blood pressure less than 90 mm Hg); bronchial asthma and other diseases that occur with broncho-obstructive syndrome (narrowing of the lumen of the bronchi with impaired sputum outflow); severe peripheral circulation disorders; simultaneous administration of MAO inhibitors; hypersensitivity to the drug and related drugs.
Precautionary measures

Dosage and administration

In patients with impaired renal function and severe liver function, the daily dose of the drug should not exceed 0.01 g.
Side effects
