Pharmacological effect
Novalgin is a combined anesthetic drug with a pronounced analgesic and antipyretic effect. In addition, the drug has some anti-inflammatory activity, stimulates the central nervous system. The drug contains three active ingredients - paracetamol, propifenazone and caffeine. The mechanism of action and therapeutic effects of the drug are based on the pharmacological properties of the active ingredients in its composition. Paracetamol and propifenazone are medicinal substances of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, by inhibiting the activity of the cyclooxygenase enzyme, the synthesis of prostaglandins, prostacyclins and thromboxane from arachidonic acid is reduced. By reducing the number of prostaglandins in the central nervous system, the analgesic effect of paracetamol and propifenazone is realized. Substances have a direct impact on the center of thermoregulation in the hypothalamus, as a result of which there is a decrease in elevated body temperature. Propifenazone has anti-inflammatory effect, inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins in the focus of inflammation.
Indications
The drug is used for the treatment of acute pain syndrome of various etiologies, including: Headache, migraine and migraine-like pain. Tooth pain. Pain in muscles and joints, rheumatic pains. Algomenorrhea. In addition, the drug is used as a antipyretic agent, including in patients with flu-like conditions (fever, muscle pain, headache).
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug and other drugs of the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The drug is not used to treat women during pregnancy and lactation, as well as to treat children under the age of 12. The drug is contraindicated in patients suffering from severe renal impairment and / or liver, impaired blood formation, as well as patients with deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase,lactase deficiency and ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum. The drug should be prescribed with caution to patients suffering from diseases of the liver and / or kidneys, benign hyperbilirubinemia. Use during pregnancy and lactation

Dosage and administration
The drug is taken orally, it is recommended to swallow the pill whole, not chewed or crushed, with a necessary amount of water. The drug is recommended to be taken after a meal. The duration of the course of treatment and the dose of the drug is determined by the attending physician individually for each patient. Adults are usually prescribed 1-2 pills of the drug 1-3 times a day. It is also possible a single dose of the drug for acute pain. Side effects

Overdose
With the use of excessive doses of the drug in patients, development of leukopenia, agranulocytosis, hemolytic anemia, as well as damage to the kidneys and liver, up to and including liver failure, are noted. With further increase in dose, the development of methemoglobinemia is possible. In overdose, gastric lavage, enterosorbent administration and symptomatic therapy are indicated.In case of poisoning with paracetamol, administration of N-acetylcysteine and administration of methionine is indicated.
Interaction with other drugs
When used in combination, the drug enhances the effects of oral antidiabetic drugs, sulfonamides and anticoagulants.
