Pharmacological effect
Tobradex is a combination preparation containing corticosteroid and antimicrobial components. The drug has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and bactericidal action. The drug Tobradex consists of two active ingredients - dexamethasone and tobramycin. Tobramycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Tobramycin is active against the strains of most microorganisms that cause infectious diseases of the eye. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid drug that has an anti-inflammatory effect. Indications
Toradex is intended for the treatment of patients suffering from inflammatory diseases of the eye, which are accompanied or not accompanied by a superficial bacterial infection, including blepharitis, conjunctivitis and keratitis (without disrupting the integrity of the epithelium). It can also be used to treat and prevent infectious and inflammatory eye diseases in patients who have undergone surgery (for example, removing cataracts, removing a foreign body). Thoradex can be prescribed for eye injuries for the treatment and prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases.
Contraindications
Tobradex is not prescribed to patients with individual intolerance toramycin and dexamethasone. Eye drops should not be prescribed to patients with hypersensitivity to benzalkonium chloride. Trabodex is not used for the treatment of patients suffering from keratitis and other eye infections that are caused by the herpes virus, mycobacterium tuberculosis, fungi and other microorganisms insensitive to tobramycin. Dosage and administration
The drug is intended for instillation in the conjunctival sac. Side effects
Tobradex is usually well tolerated by patients. Rare cases of the development of such undesirable effects have been reported when applying eye ointment and eye drops Toradex: Local reactions: hyperemia, itching, burning and dry eyes and eyelids, foreign body sensation in the eye, increased intraocular pressure, reduced visual acuity, keratitis, conjunctival edema, lacrimation. Overdose
Data on overdose of the drug Tobradex have been reported. If high doses are used, there may be an increase in the severity of undesirable effects. When using high doses of eye drops or Toradex eye ointment, rinse the eye with plenty of clean running water and consult a doctor.
Interaction with other drugs
When using drops or ointment Toradex simultaneously with other local ophthalmic tools should observe the interval of at least 15 minutes between their use.
