Pharmacological effect

Pharmacokinetics
After ingestion is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability is 40-60%. Practically does not penetrate the BBB. Metabolized in the liver by methylation. Causes induction of liver microsomal enzymes. Excreted by the kidneys.
Indications
Hay fever, urticaria, eczema, pruritus, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, skin reaction after an insect bite; bronchial asthma (as part of combination therapy).
Contraindications
Prostatic hypertrophy, angle-closure glaucoma, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute phase; hypersensitivity to mebhydrolin, pyloric stenosis, epilepsy, cardiac arrhythmias (with vagolytic action, can improve AV-conductivity and contribute to the development of supraventricular arrhythmias), pregnancy, lactation.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Mebhydrolin is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Dosage and administration
Adults and children over 10 years old - 100-300 mg / day. The daily dose for children aged 5-10 years - 100-200 mg; 2-5 years - 50-150 mg; up to 2 years - 50-100 mg.
Side effects
On the part of the digestive system: rarely - dry mouth, dyspepsia due to irritation of the gastric mucosa. From the side of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: dizziness, paresthesia, fatigue, tremor, drowsiness are possible. From the hemopoietic system: in isolated cases - granulocytopenia, agranulocytosis. From the urinary system: in isolated cases - dysuria.
Overdose
No cases of overdose have been identified.

Mebhydrolin enhances the effect of sedatives and ethanol.
