After oral administration, 60-80% of the dose is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is rapidly distributed in most tissues and body fluids. Gets through a placental barrier, it is allocated with breast milk. Excreted in the urine and feces unchanged.

Indications

Applied with trachoma (an infectious eye disease that can lead to blindness), conjunctivitis (inflammation of the outer lining of the eye), blepharitis (inflammation of the edges of the eyelids) and other infectious diseases of the eye.

Contraindications

Tetracycline eye ointment is contraindicated in case of heightened sensitivity to it and to its related antibiotics (oxytetracycline, doxiyklin, etc.), in case of fungal diseases. With caution should use the drug in diseases of the kidneys, with leukopenia (decrease in the level of leukocytes in the blood). It should not be prescribed tetracycline eye ointment (and other drugs in this group) to pregnant women and children under the age of 8 years. The drug should be prescribed with caution to patients with an indication of allergic reactions in the history (medical history). Recently, due to the prevalence of tetracycline-resistant strains of microorganisms and frequent side effects, the use of tetraeclocin has become relatively limited.

Precautionary measures

During the treatment period, vitamins of group B, K, brewer's yeast should be used to prevent hypovitaminosis.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Tetracycline is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. It penetrates the placental barrier. May cause long-term discoloration of the teeth, enamel hypoplasia, suppression of the growth of the bones of the fetal skeleton. In addition, tetracycline may be the cause of the development of fatty infiltration of the liver.

Dosage and administration

Laying for the lower eyelid 3-5 times a day.

Side effects

Tetracycline eye ointment is usually well transported, however, like other antibiotics with a wide spectrum of antibacterial action, can cause side effects: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, bowel function disorder (mild or severe diarrhea), changes in the mucous membranes of the mouth and gastrointestinal path (glossitis / inflammation of the tongue /, stomatitis / inflammation of the oral mucosa / gastritis / inflammation of the stomach / proctitis / inflammation of the rectum /), allergic skin reactions, angioedema ( allergic edema) et al. Tetracycline eye ointment and other drugs of this series can increase the skin’s sensitivity to the action of sunlight (photosensitization). It has been noted that long-term use of tetracycline eye ointment and other drugs of this group during tooth formation (prescribed for children in the first months of life ) may cause dark yellow teeth in children (deposition of the drug in the tooth enamel and dentin). With prolonged use of drugs of the tetracycline group, complications may occur due to the development m candidiasis (lesions of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as septicemia / blood poisoning by microorganisms / caused by the yeast fungus Candidaalbicans). Antifungal antibiotics are used to treat candidiasis (see Nystatin, Levorin. During the treatment with tetracycline ophthalmic ointment, the patient’s condition must be carefully monitored. If there are signs of hypersensitivity to the drug and side effects, a break is taken in treatment, if necessary, another antibiotic is prescribed tetracycline groups).

Interaction with other drugs

Preparations containing metal ions (antacids, preparations containing iron, magnesium, calcium) form inactive chelates with tetracycline, and therefore it is necessary to avoid their simultaneous use. It is necessary to avoid combination with penicillins, cephalosporins, which have a bactericidal effect and are antagonists of bacteriostatic antibiotics (including tetracycline). With the simultaneous use of tetracycline with retinol, the development of intracranial hypertension is possible. When used simultaneously with Kolestiramine or to Olestipol marked violation of tetracycline absorption.

special instructions

With prolonged use, it is necessary to periodically monitor the functions of the kidneys, liver, blood-forming organs. The use of tetracycline in children during the development of teeth can lead to an irreversible change in their color. Tetracycline should not be taken simultaneously with milk and other dairy products, since at the same time absorption of an antibiotic is broken.
