Pharmacological effect
Geksoral tabs - a drug with antimicrobial and local anesthetic effects for local use in ENT practice. Chlorhexidine has a broad antibacterial spectrum of action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It acts by destroying the cytoplasmic membrane of a bacterial cell. It is ineffective against yeast fungi, dermatophytes, mycobacteria, some species of Pseudomonas spp. and Proteus spp. Chlorhexidine is most effective in a neutral or slightly alkaline environment. In an acidic environment, its activity decreases. Efficiency decreases in the presence of soaps, blood and purulent secretions. The use of Geksoral Tabs pills leads to a significant decrease in the bacterial content of saliva. The use of chlorhexidine for several months is accompanied by a decrease in its effectiveness by reducing the sensitivity of bacteria.
Indications
Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity or pharynx: - pharyngitis, angina and other inflammatory diseases of the pharynx; - stomatitis; - gingivitis.
Contraindications
- wound and ulcerative lesions of the mouth or pharynx; - low concentration of cholinesterase in the blood plasma; - children under 4 years old; - hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation.
Precautionary measures
During treatment, psoriasis may worsen. During pheochromocytoma, propranolol can only be used after taking an alpha blocker. After a long course of treatment, propranolol should be discontinued gradually, under the supervision of a physician. during anesthesia, you must stop taking propranolol or find a remedy for anesthesia with minimal negative inotropic effects. The impact on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms of patients whose activities require increased attention, the question of the use of propranolol on an outpatient basis should be addressed only after evaluating the individual response of the patient.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
There is insufficient experience with the drug in pregnant and lactating women. Use of the drug Hexoral Tabs during pregnancy and lactation is possible only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk of adverse effects for the fetus and child. If necessary, use Hexoral Tabs during lactation should stop breastfeeding.
Dosage and administration
Hexoral tabs should be slowly absorbed in the mouth until completely dissolved. Adults and children over 12 years old are prescribed 1 tablet every 1-2 hours as needed, but not more than 8 pills / day. Children aged 4-12 years appoint up to 4 pills / day.
Side effects
With prolonged use, there may be a short-term taste disturbance and numbness of the tongue; reversible discoloration of the teeth and tongue is also possible. In the presence of hypersensitivity to benzocaine, in rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions may develop, up to anaphylactic shock. Benzocaine may cause the development of methemoglobinemia in children.
