Pharmacological effect
The preparation for moistening and protecting the cornea. Oftagel contains carbomer, which is a high molecular weight carboxyvinylpolymer (polyacrylate). Carbomer increases the viscosity of the tear, forming a protective moisturizing film on the surface of the cornea, thickens the mucin and water layers of the tear film. Oftagel reduces the symptoms of irritation associated with dry eye syndrome, which includes compensatory tearing, itching, burning, foreign body sensation in the eye and visual fatigue. Prolonged contact of the tear film with the cornea has a beneficial effect by reducing the secretion of the tear fluid. With simultaneous use of oftagel can prolong the absorption of other ophthalmic drugs.
Pharmacokinetics
Due to the relatively large size of the carbomer molecule, penetration through the cornea is unlikely.
Indications
Dry keratoconjunctivitis and other diseases associated with the syndrome of "dry eye", which is expressed in lacrimation, fatigue, itching and burning, foreign body sensation in the eye.
