Composition
Pyrantel (in the form of embonat) 250 mg.
Pharmacological effect
Anthelmintic agent. Causes neuromuscular blockade of sensitive worms. It is active against Enterobius vermicularis, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus and, to a lesser extent, Trichocephalus trichiurus. It acts on both mature and immature individuals of both sexes.
Pharmacokinetics
Practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. After taking a single dose of 10 mg / kg, the plasma concentration is 0.005-0.13 mcg / ml and is reached within 1-3 hours. It is partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine. It is excreted unchanged through the intestines (about 93%), 7% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged or as a metabolite.
Indications
The main indications for use are ascariasis, ankilostomidosis, necatoriasis and enterobiosis.
Contraindications
Myasthenia (treatment period); - Children's age up to 3 years (solid dosage form); - Hypersensitivity to pyrantel and other components of the drug.
Precautionary measures
Do not exceed recommended doses.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Pyrantel is contraindicated for use during pregnancy. If necessary, use during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
Dosage and administration
The drug is administered orally during or after a meal and the dosage is set individually depending on the age and body weight of the patient. Ascariasis and enterobiosis, as well as mixed invasions - once at a dose of 10 mg / kg body weight. Age Dosage of the drug (1 tab.) Children 6 years old - 12 years old 500 mg (2 pills.) Children over 12 years old and adults with m <75 kg 750 mg (3 pills). Adults with m> 75 kg 1000 mg (4 pills). Tablet should be chewed thoroughly. Ankilostomidosis: the drug is prescribed at the rate of 10 mg / kg body weight per day for 3 days. Necatorosis: in severe forms of the preparations t administered at a dose rate of 20 mg / kg of body weight per day for 2 days.
Side effects
On the part of the gastrointestinal tract and liver: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the stomach; rarely, increased activity of hepatic transaminases. For the central nervous system: rarely, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, weakness; in some cases - hearing loss, hallucinations, confusion, paresthenia. Others: skin rash, fever.
Overdose
Overdose of the drug is not described.
Interaction with other drugs
It should not be prescribed simultaneously with piperazine (weakening of action). With simultaneous use of pyrantel increases the concentration of theophylline in the plasma.
special instructions
To be used with caution in case of liver failure. After taking Pyrantel, no laxatives are prescribed. In enterobiasis, simultaneous treatment of all persons living together should be carried out. After completion of treatment, it is necessary to conduct a control study of feces for the presence of parasitic eggs. Children are prescribed with caution at the age of 6 months.
