Composition
1 tab. ferrous sulfate × 11/2 H2O 256.3 mg, which corresponds to an iron content of 80 mg. Excipients: ascorbic acid, mucoproteois (anhydrous), potato starch, methacrylic acid and methacrylate copolymer (Eudragit S), magnesium trisilicate, triethyl citrate, povidone, magnesium stearate, castor oil, hydrogenated, talc.
Pharmacological effect
Antianemic drug, the action of which is due to the properties of the components included in its composition. Iron sulfate is a salt of iron, a trace element necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin. Iron is part of hemoglobin, myoglobin and a number of enzymes. When using iron in the form of salts, there is a rapid replenishment of its deficiency in the body, which leads to a gradual regression of clinical (weakness, fatigue, dizziness, tachycardia, soreness and dryness of the skin) and laboratory symptoms of anemia. Mukoproteoz provides a better tolerability of the drug and increases the bioavailability and the gradual release of bivalent iron (Fe2 +) from the drug. Ascorbic acid helps to improve iron absorption. The special neutral coating of the pills provides absorption of the active ingredients, mainly in the distal small intestine. The lack of a local irritant effect on the gastric mucosa contributes to good tolerability of the drug from the gastrointestinal tract.
Pharmacokinetics
After taking the drug, iron absorption occurs mainly in the duodenum and in the proximal jejunum. Cmax of iron ions in the blood plasma is reached 7 hours after taking the drug and remains elevated during the day. On average, 10–20% of the dose taken is absorbed. Absorption increases with decreasing iron stores in the body. The binding of iron with plasma proteins - 90% or more. Deposited as ferritin or hemosiderin in the cells of the system of phagocytic macrophages, a small amount - in the form of myoglobin in the muscles. Iron is excreted in feces, urine and sweat.
Indications

Contraindications

Use during pregnancy and lactation
Prophylactic use: pregnant women - 1 tab. / Day or every other day during the last two trimesters of pregnancy (or starting from the 4th month).
Dosage and administration
Adults and children over 6 years old: pills are taken orally (without chewing). It is advisable to take the drug with water, before meals or during meals. Use for therapeutic purposes: children over 6 years old - 1 tab. / Day, children over 10 years old and adults - 1-2 pills / day. Prophylactic use: pregnant women - 1 tab. / Day or every other day during the last two trimesters of pregnancy (or starting from the 4th month). Duration of reception. Adult patients should take the drug during the period that provides for the correction of anemia and the restoration of iron reserves in the body. The dose for women is 600 mg, for men - 1200 mg. In case of iron deficiency anemia, the duration of administration is from 3 to 6 months, depending on the degree of depletion of iron reserves: if necessary, in the absence of adequate control of anemia, it is necessary to increase the duration of the drug.
Side effects
On the part of the digestive system: rarely - abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation. In some cases, skin allergies are possible.
Overdose
Symptoms: may increase the manifestations of the described side effects.Treatment: gastric lavage with 1% aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution, symptomatic therapy. Antidote - deferoxamine.
Interaction with other drugs
Reduce iron absorption: - anti-acid drugs containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium salts, calcium preparations, etidronic acid, drugs that reduce the acidity of gastric juice (including cimetidine); - drugs containing carbonates, bicarbonates, phosphates, oxalates; - Pancreatin, pancreatic lipase. Mutually reduce absorption when used together: - tetracyclines, D-penicillamine, tea, egg yolk.
