Pharmacological effect
Histamine H1 receptor blocker, an ethylene diamine derivative. It has anti-allergic, antipruritic, anti-exudative, as well as a weak sedative effect. It has m-holinoblokiruyuschimi properties.
Pharmacokinetics
After ingestion is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability is 40-60%. Practically does not penetrate the BBB. Metabolized in the liver by methylation. Causes induction of liver microsomal enzymes. Excreted by the kidneys.
Indications
Hay fever, urticaria, eczema, pruritus, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, skin reaction after an insect bite; bronchial asthma (as part of combination therapy).
Contraindications
Prostatic hypertrophy, angle-closure glaucoma, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute phase; hypersensitivity to mebhydrolin, pyloric stenosis, epilepsy, cardiac arrhythmias (with vagolytic action, can improve AV-conductivity and contribute to the development of supraventricular arrhythmias), pregnancy, lactation.

Side effects

On the side of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: dizziness, paresthesia, fatigue, tremor, drowsiness are possible. From the urinary system: in isolated cases - dysuria.
