Composition
1 suppository contains: Active ingredient: benzocaine 206 mg. Excipients: cocoa bean oil 1448 mg, corn starch 340 mg, methyl parahydroxybenzoate 2 mg, propyl parahydroxybenzoate 4 mg.
Pharmacological effect
Benzocaine - a local anesthetic, has no resorptive action. Cocoa butter has a softening effect.
Indications
Local anesthetic for hemorrhoids, anal fissures, after proctological operations, during diagnostic procedures.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, thromboembolic disease, granulocytopenia.
Dosage and administration
The drug should be used after hygiene. Adults and children over 12 years of age: enter into the rectum 1 suppository up to 4 times a day (in the morning, at night, and after each bowel movement). Children up to 12 years: apply as directed by a doctor.
Side effects
Local reactions (hyperemia), allergic reactions are possible.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms may be related to the pharmacological effects of benzocaine. Its systemic absorption in overdose may be manifested by drowsiness, anxiety, agitation, and in severe cases, convulsions. It is extremely rare that large doses of benzocaine can cause methemoglobinemia, which is manifested by respiratory disorders and cyanosis. Intravenous administration of methylene blue is a specific agent in the treatment of this condition.
