100 g of ointment contains: Active substance: Turpentine gum [purified terpentine oil with a mass fraction of α- and β-pinene not less than 60% by mass] - 20 g. Adjuvant: Emulsion consistent water / vaseline - 80 g
Pharmacological effect
Means of plant origin. It has a local irritant, distracting and antiseptic effect. The main active ingredient of the terpentine oil (turpentine refined) is terpene alpha-pinene lipophilic, easily penetrates through the epidermis and irritates the end of the sensory nerves. Apparently, endogenous biologically active substances that are released under the influence of oil make a certain contribution. Histamine and other inflammatory mediators cause dilation of blood vessels, small tissue swelling, and hyperemia. Enkephalins and endorphins contribute to anesthesia. The mechanism of distracting action is explained by the fact that two streams of excitation flow into the central nervous system - from pathologically changed internal organs and from the skin surface, the latter dominating. The perception of afferent impulsation weakens. In addition, a trophic effect is carried out by the skin-visceral reflex (when the sensitive zones of Zakharyin-Ged are irritated) and by the type of axon-reflex (antidromically along postganglionic sympathetic fibers). When the inhalation route of administration of alpha-pinene reflex stimulates cough, has expectorant and mucolytic effects.
Indications
As an aid in rheumatic pains, arthralgia, neuralgia, myalgia, lumboischialgia.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug, violation of the integrity or inflammatory diseases of the skin in the place of intended use, pregnancy, breastfeeding period, age up to 18 years.
Precautionary measures
With care: Hepatic and / or renal failure. Do not allow the ointment on the mucous membranes and eyes. If ointment gets into eyes, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
