Active ingredients
Xylometazoline
Composition
In 1 ml .: Xylometazoline hydrochloride 500 mcg. Excipients: disodium edetate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride (as 10% benzalkonium solution), purified water.
Pharmacological effect
Vasoconstrictor drug for local use in ENT practice. Xylometazoline has an alpha adrenomimetic effect. Causes constriction of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating the swelling and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis. In therapeutic concentrations does not irritate the mucous, does not cause hyperemia. The effect occurs within a few minutes after application and lasts for 10-12 hours.
Indications
Acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, pollinosis, otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa), preparing the patient for diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages.
Contraindications
Arterial hypertension . - tachycardia. - pronounced atherosclerosis. - glaucoma. - atrophic rhinitis. - hyperthyroidism. - Surgery on the meninges (in history). - hypersensitivity to the drug.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
It should not be used for a long time, such as chronic rhinitis.
Dosage and administration
Nasal drops of 0.05% prescribed to children aged 2 to 6 years, 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times / day. Nasal drops of 0.1% are prescribed for adults and children over 6 years old, 2-3 drops in each nostril (instillation can be repeated if necessary). The drug should be used no more than 3 times / day and for no more than 7 days.
