Pharmacological effect
Immunomodulatory drug. It has an antiviral effect. The drug induces α- and β-interferons, mobilizes and activates macrophages, limits the production of inflammatory cytokines (interleukins 1, 6, 8 and tumor necrosis factor), stimulates the production of antibodies to various infectious antigens, inhibits viral replication, increases the body’s resistance to infections caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. In patients infected with HIV, Gepon reduces the concentration of HIV in blood cells and plasma, and simultaneously activates immune responses specific to HIV. In the majority of patients infected with HIV, when Gepon is used, there is an increase in the content of CD4 + T- and NK-cells, the functional activity of neutrophils and CD8 + T-cells, which are key elements of the body’s defense against bacteria, viruses and fungi, increases, and the production of antibodies specific to antigens increases HIV, as well as antigens of pathogens of opportunistic infections. Indications
Correction of weakened immunity in immunodeficiency states; -Treatment of HIV infection; -Improve immune protection against infections; -Treatment and prevention of opportunistic infections caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi; -Treatment and prevention of candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes (including due to antibiotic therapy); - reduction of inflammation (redness, swelling, itching, burning, pain) of mucous membranes and skin, as well as dryness of mucous membranes.
Contraindications
hypersensitivity to the drug; -children up to 12 years.
Precautionary measures
The drug is contraindicated in children under 6 years.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Use during pregnancy is not recommended unless the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. It is not recommended to use Gepon during lactation.
Dosage and administration
The drug is prescribed to adults and children over 12 years old at a dose of 10 mg orally 1 time / day, or 1-2 mg as a 0.02-0.04% solution for local treatment of mucous membranes and skin 1 time / day. For the treatment of opportunistic infections with HIV infection or in other immunodeficient conditions, Gepon is prescribed daily with 10 mg orally for 1-3 months. For the treatment and prevention of infections of the mucous membranes and skin caused by Candida fungi, local administration of Gepon (0.02-0.04% solution) is recommended in the form of irrigation of affected areas mucous membranes and skin. The course of treatment is 3 irrigations with an interval of 1-3 days between procedures. In candidal vulvovaginitis, urethritis, cervicitis, women are treated with 0.02–0.04% irrigation solution of the mucous membrane of the vulva, vagina, cervix, and lotions on the affected skin that are adjacent to the skin. In menstrual urethritis, balanoposthitis in men use instillation of a 0.02-0.04% solution of Gepon in the urethra and lotions on the affected skin.
