Pharmacological effect
Laxative. The active form of the drug, which is formed by hydrolysis under the influence of intestinal microorganisms, directly stimulates the nervous structures of the intestinal wall, as a result of which the movement of intestinal contents is accelerated, the absorption of electrolytes and water decreases. The action comes 10-12 hours after administration.
Pharmacokinetics
After ingestion is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is not subjected to hepato-intestinal circulation.
Indications
- atonic constipation; - stool regulation (hemorrhoids, proctitis, anus fissures); - preparation for surgical operations, instrumental and X-ray studies.
Contraindications

Use during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy. Dosage and administration
Inside, before bedtime. Depending on the effect obtained, the dose in subsequent administrations is increased or decreased. Adults: initial dose - 13 drops, with persistent constipation - up to 26 drops. For children over 4 years old, the initial dose is 5-8 drops. The course of treatment is 7 days.
Side effects
Possible: diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, dehydration, impaired water and electrolyte balance, weakness, convulsions, decreased blood pressure.
Overdose
Symptoms: in case of chronic overdose, ischemia of the large intestine mucosa, secondary hyper aldosteronism, urolithiasis, lesions of the renal tubules are possible. Treatment: gastric lavage, correction of disorders of water and electrolyte balance, antispasmodics.
Interaction with other drugs
It is possible to increase sensitivity to cardiac glycosides. Glucocorticosteroids, diuretics increase the risk of electrolyte disturbances. Broad-spectrum antibiotics reduce the sedative effect.
