Pharmacokinetics
When the drug is applied, dimethyl sulfoxide is detected in the serum after 8–15 minutes, and the maximum content is noted in 2–8 hours. As a rule, after 30–36 hours, dimethyl sulfoxide in the blood serum is no longer detected. Dimethyl sulfoxide does not accumulate. With the local application of the drug dimethyl sulfoxide penetrates into the articular cavity, binds to proteins in blood and tissues. It is excreted from the body through the kidneys unchanged and in the form of oxidation products - dimethyl sulfone and dimethyl sulfate; as well as in the form of a reduced product (dimethyl sulfide) it is excreted with exhaled air.
Indications
To relieve pain in the treatment of the following diseases and conditions: rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, deforming osteoarthritis, arthropathy, sciatica, trigeminal neuralgia, treatment of injuries, ligament damage, traumatic infiltrates, erythema nodosum therapy.
Contraindications
hypersensitivity to Dimexid or other components of the drug, severe damage to the liver and kidneys, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, marked atherosclerosis, various types of stroke, glaucoma, cataracts, coma, pregnancy, lactation period, children under 12 years old. With caution: due to so that Dimexid can enhance not only the activity, but also the toxicity of some drugs, caution should be exercised when prescribing it simultaneously with other drugs.
Dosage and administration
Outwardly. For adults and children over 12 years old, the drug is applied with a thin layer to the affected area 1-2 times a day. Duration of treatment is 10–14 days. Repeated courses may be held not less than 10 days.
Side effects
Compatible with heparin, antibacterial drugs, NSAIDs. Increases the sensitivity of microorganisms to aminoglycoside and β-lactam antibiotics; chloramphenicol, rifampicin,griseofulvinu.
Overdose
In the process of using the drug, contact dermatitis, garlic smell of exhaled air, increased skin pigmentation, allergic reactions, erythematous rash, dry skin, slight burning sensation can be observed. Some patients perceive the smell of the drug badly (nausea, retching), in isolated cases bronchospasm is possible. If any of the side effects indicated in the instructions are aggravated or any other side effects that are not indicated in the instructions appear, you must inform the doctor.
