Composition

Pharmacological effect
Anthelmintic agent. Causes neuromuscular blockade of sensitive worms. It is active against Enterobius vermicularis, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus and, to a lesser extent, Trichocephalus trichiurus. It acts on both mature and immature individuals of both sexes.
Pharmacokinetics
Practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. After taking a single dose of 10 mg / kg, the plasma concentration is 0.005-0.13 mcg / ml and is reached within 1-3 hours. It is partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine. It is excreted unchanged through the intestines (about 93%), 7% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged or as a metabolite.
Indications
Ascariasis, ankilostomidosis, necatoria, trichocephalosis.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, hypersensitivity to pyrantel, myasthenia gravis (treatment period).
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Pyrantel is contraindicated for use during pregnancy. If necessary, use during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
Dosage and administration
In case of ascariasis and enterobiasis, a single dose of 10 mg / kg is used. When combined with necatoria ascariasis or other combined helminth lesions, they are used for 3 days in a row at a dose of 10 mg / kg / day or for 2 days at a dose of 20 mg / kg / day.
Side effects
On the part of the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, increased activity of hepatic transaminases. Overdose
Excess therapeutic doses of pyrantel is not accompanied by symptoms of a pronounced nature. There is no specific antidote to pyrantel. Interaction with other drugs
It should not be prescribed simultaneously with piperazine (weakening of action). With simultaneous use of pyrantel increases the concentration of theophylline in the plasma.
