Composition

In 5 g of gel: Clindamycin phosphate 100 mg Auxiliary substances: sodium benzoate, castor oil, 1,2-propylene glycol, polyethylene oxide (as an emulsifier).

Pharmacological effect

Antibiotic group of lincosamides for vaginal use. The mechanism of action of the drug is associated with impaired intracellular protein synthesis in the microbial cell at the level of the 50S subunit of ribosomes. Clindamycin has a broad spectrum of action, has a bacteriostatic effect, and in higher concentrations with respect to some microorganisms is bactericidal. Active against microorganisms that cause bacterial vaginosis: Gardnerella vaginalis, Mobiluncus spp., Bacteroides spp., Mycoplasma hominis, Peptostreptococcus spp. Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans are not sensitive to clindamycin.

Pharmacokinetics

After a single intravaginal injection of 100 mg of clindamycin, an average of 4% of the administered dose undergoes systemic absorption. Cmax clindamycin in the blood plasma is 20 ng / ml.

Indications

Bacterial vaginosis caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin.

Precautionary measures

It is not recommended to apply along with other intravaginal means.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Clinical studies on the use of clindamycin in women in the first trimester of pregnancy has not been conducted, so the use of the drug is possible only in the case when the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the risk to the fetus. Application in the II and III trimesters of pregnancy is possible, since no adverse effect on the fetus has been detected. It is not known whether clindamycin is excreted in the mother’s milk during intravaginal use, therefore it is necessary to compare the benefits of using the drug during the breastfeeding period and the possible risk to the infant.

Dosage and administration

Intravaginally is administered using an applicator. The recommended single dose is 100 mg of clindamycin (one full applicator), preferably at bedtime for 3-7 days.

Side effects

Perhaps the development of allergic reactions, the appearance of irritation at the injection site, cervicitis, vaginitis, vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Overdose

With intravaginal use of the drug overdose is not installed.

Interaction with other drugs

Antagonistic interaction has been observed between clindamycin and erythromycin. There is cross-resistance between clindamycin and lincomycin.

special instructions

With prolonged use of the drug, excessive growth of microorganisms insensitive to it is possible, especially of the fungi Candida. Considering the possibility of minimal systemic absorption of the drug (approximately 4%), we cannot exclude the occurrence of diarrhea during the use of the drug. In this case, the drug should be discontinued. It is not recommended to use simultaneously with other intravaginal drugs. The effectiveness and safety of clindamycin when intravaginal use in children has not been established.
